There is a $25 administrative fee for a one-half hour consultation with a lawyer. There may be no fee if you need a lawyer because you have been injured. When you call LRIS, you will speak with a trained staff member who will evaluate your problem. Although the staff member is not a lawyer, she or he will be able to determine if you need a lawyer or a referral to a consumer, government or other public service agency. If you need a lawyer, the staff member will match your problem with a licensed, insured and experienced attorney in that field. You will contact the attorney for a 1/2 hour consultation for a $25 administrative fee paid by check or credit card. If you need additional legal assistance, you may hire the attorney or not. If you hire the attorney, you will work out any fee with him or her. WILL I REALLY GET THE RIGHT LAWYER? LRIS of the Santa Monica Bar Association is a State Bar of California certified referral service. All the lawyers are carefully screened and meet both State Bar and LRIS experience requirements. LRIS attorneys practice in over 20 areas of law. Whatever your legal needs, LRIS will assist you. WHAT IF I DON'T NEED A LAWYER? After careful evaluation, we find that many callers do not need lawyers but need referrals to consumer, government or public service agency. LRIS is a non-profit organization that provides information as well as attorney referrals. We are working to help you find out what help you need and how to find it. WHAT WILL IT COST? There is a $25 administrative fee. LRIS staff will conveniently take your payment by credit card over the phone or the LRIS lawyer will collect a check payable to the LRIS. In most cases, there is no fee if you want a lawyer because you are physically injured.
